Every parent has dream that their children to have a highly qualified professional carrier. This includes Engineering and Medical fields. Here, we will focus on Medical field and specially MBBS from abroad. This blog will be helpful to those who want to pursue MBBS. The Covid-19 pandemic also has highlighted that India has shortage of Healthcare services, however there is a huge number of NEET qualified students aspiring to become Doctor.

About NEET:

For pursuing MBBS from India or Abroad, candidate must qualify NEET UG or simply called NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). For NEET,  pre requirements are that the student must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their compulsory subjects. The percentage may vary, but in general for  general candidates, minimum 50% in intermediate and English as a core subject from a recognized board is must.

NEET exam is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) for the admission to MBBS, BDS and equivalent AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) courses. To qualify NEET, 50 percentile (which is declared by NTA) is must. Every year, several lakh of students register and appear for NEET and  number is increasing every year. For example in 2020, close to 15.87 lakh students registered, 13.66 lakh appeared and over 7.7 lakh qualified NEET.  Our further analysis is also based on NEET 2020.

There are approximately 80,000 MBBS seats in India over 500+ medical colleges (nearly 50% in Government and 50% in Private medical colleges). The fee structure of Government medical college is nominal and very few students with very high NEET score, get admission.  The fee structure of private colleges is very high and not affordable by most of the parents.

WHY MBBS from ABROAD?

Out of NEET qualified students, approximately 5% get admission to Indian government medical colleges. Now, out of balance 95%, only 5% can get admission to private colleges with very high fee structure. That means, a majority of qualified students are not able to get admission, may be because of unaffordable high fee structure and limited number of medical seats.
